




The India-Japan Strategic Dialogue 2025
The India-Japan Strategic Dialogue 2025 took place in Tokyo from August 20-22. This dialogue was a collaborative effort by the Ananta Aspen Centre, the Confederation of Indian Industry, and the International House of Japan. Operating under Chatham House Rules, the dialogue convened senior representatives from government, business, academia, media, and leading think tanks. This esteemed platform is crucial for shaping the bilateral agenda between India and Japan, facilitating off-the-record discussions on strategically significant issues.
The dialogue commenced on August 20 with a briefing meeting with Ambassador Sibi George, India’s Ambassador to Japan. This was followed by a roundtable discussion involving Mr. Takehiro Funakoshi, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Kosei Nomura, Deputy Director-General, Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and the Indian Delegation.
The dialogue commenced with a keynote address by Ambassador Sibi George, India’s Ambassador to Japan, followed by sessions exploring enhancing Indo-Pacific congruence, defense and security, technology, semiconductors, supply chains, economic relations, and positioning the bilateral relationship within the evolving global order. On August 21, the dialogue featured addresses by the Honourable Mr. Keisuke Suzuki, Minister of Justice, Japan Ministry of Justice, and Mr. Yutaka Arima, Deputy Minister/Director-General, Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These exchanges offered profound insights and perspectives on India-Japan relations.
The dialogue concluded with an open forum where speakers from both sides explore the future of Japan-India strategic relations through three interconnected lenses: geopolitics, economic security, and the evolving bilateral partnership.
