India–Australia Track II Dialogue on Climate and Energy Security

Background

India and Australia face a common set of pressures in climate and energy policy: securing reliable critical mineral supply chains, scaling clean energy deployment, and building resilience against a changing climate. These shared priorities have taken on greater weight as the two countries have deepened their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership over the past decade.

The India–Australia Track II Dialogue on Climate and Energy Security provides a trusted forum for experts from both countries to examine these shared challenges in depth. Its purpose is to generate substantive analysis and recommendations that can inform Track I, government-to-government discussions.

Focus Areas

The Dialogue brings together voices from government, industry, academia and civil society to build mutual understanding and shared expertise across six priority areas:

Clean energy technologies and innovation
Critical mineral supply chains
Climate resilience and adaptation
Heat management and food security
Nuclear energy

The Inaugural 2025 Dialogue

The inaugural edition of the Dialogue, held in Canberra in August 2025, marked the start of a multi-year effort to build trusted networks and practical cooperation between Indian and Australian experts.

Over two days of roundtables and plenary sessions, delegates worked through shared challenges and opportunities across energy transition, critical mineral supply chains, clean energy technology, and investment, laying the groundwork for closer collaboration in the years ahead.

The Dialogue is convened under the Chatham House Rule, giving participants the opportunity to speak candidly, share diverse perspectives and build trust.
